Marlene Joan (Harris) Eaton, lovingly known as “Migs,” passed away on March 30, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born on August 7, 1950, Marlene grew up in Yarmouth, Maine, where she developed a deep connection to the coast and community that would remain with her throughout her life. She later made her home in the Portland, Maine area, where she built a successful career as a realtor beginning in the early 1990s. Through her work, she helped countless individuals and families find not just houses, but homes—forming lasting relationships along the way.
Migs lived a life defined by independence, creativity, and adventure. She was a licensed hot air balloon pilot who traveled to festivals, built experimental balloons and helped construct the world's largest hot air balloon ("Miss Champagne"), embracing the thrill of flight and the beauty of seeing the world from above. Over the years, she also pursued various entrepreneurial ventures, including rental properties, a banner and sign painting business, a garbage truck business, and Route Deliveries, through which she delivered the Wise Guide throughout southern Maine.
Migs had a vibrant spirit and a love for life’s joys. She cherished her time at Harris Point and looked forward each year to the Pirate Festival in Eastport, Maine, where her sense of fun and adventure truly shone. She also found joy and energy in Zumba, Book Club, and Quilting, embracing music, movement, and community with enthusiasm.
Those who knew Migs will remember her warmth, her lively personality, and the genuine care she extended to others. She had a special way of bringing people together and making every moment feel meaningful.
A memorial service will be held in November 2026 in Kathmandu, Nepal. In her honor, the nuns of Maratika Monastery will perform seven days of pujas, a reflection of her spirit and the deep impact she had on those around her.
Migs will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Survived by Husband James Schmidt, Daughter and Son-in-Law Kimberly and Lee Sutton, brother David Harris, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
