

Falmouth – Phyllis Gray, 94, passed away peacefully January 13, 2011 in the loving presence of her family. Born June 26, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan she was the daughter of the late John and Frances McFalda.
She entered the WACS during World War II serving as a chauffeur in Washington, DC, driving war generals between the Pentagon and the White House.
In 1947 she married her husband Joseph Gray and raised their five children.
Phyllis lived a very full and rich life, documented in hundreds of letters to family and friends. Besides being fully involved in raising her children, she volunteered to help in elementary schools and with handicapped children as well. Wherever she went she was the “life of the party” bringing joy to everyone. In retirement she and Joe traveled the country in an RV, even taking a tour through Mexico. For 20 years they spent summers at their beloved home on Sheepscot Pond.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers George and Jack and her sisters Vivian and Marie.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, five children; Timothy, a priest of the Sacred Heart, Colleen Allen and her husband Bruce, Molly Carmody and her husband William, Peter and his wife Caryn and Carol Messina and her husband Walt, her sister; Gloryann, ten grandchildren; Jesse, Joshua and his wife Kim, Justin and his wife Eve, George and his wife Erynne, Ashley and her husband John, Henna, Carrie, Sean, Willow and Kyle, also five great grandchildren; Keegan, Caleb, Tyler, Max, and Kiernan.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday January 16, 2012 at Holy Martyrs Church 266 Foreside Rd in Falmouth.
