April 30, 1932 - March 15, 2025
Richard James Intravaia of Yarmouth, formerly of Belmont, MA, passed away peacefully at Gosnell House in Scarborough, surrounded by his family. Born April 30, 1932 in Boston to Domenico Intravaia and Concetta DiFranco Intravaia, both of Augusta, Sicily.
Dick was raised in the West End of Boston and Somerville, MA where he formed life-long friendships and was the captain of the football team. Dick served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a Communications Operator from 1951-1955. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1987.
He married Beverly Guggina in 1957 and remained by her side for 68 wonderful years. They resided in Belmont, MA where they raised their daughter, Carol. Together, they enjoyed road trips in Dick’s convertibles, Sundays at the beach with extended family and traveling. His favorite trips were to Italy, Hawaii, Morocco and Spain.
Beverly was the absolute love of his life and their relationship was aspirational to all who were lucky to know them. Her love and care were integral in the later years of his life; he would always let her know how grateful he was for her constant support.
Dick played tennis and took up golf in retirement. He especially enjoyed monthly card games with his childhood buddies, going to casinos and having a great meal at his favorite restaurants. He volunteered at St. John the Evangelist in Naples, FL bringing food and supplies to the migrant workers of Immokalee.
For many years, Dick and Bev spent their summers in Dennisport, MA, and winters in Naples, FL before moving to Sebago Lake, ME, and then year-round to Yarmouth, ME to be near family. Together, they enjoyed renovating and decorating their seasonal homes and welcoming family and friends.
His greatest joy was as “Poppy” to his twin granddaughters, Casey and Monica. He was a fixture on the sidelines, never missing a game or special event. He was their biggest cheerleader and was proud of all aspects of their lives. They were his pride and joy and a constant source of happiness.
Married 68 years, he is survived by his wife Beverly (Guggina) of Yarmouth. Loving father of Carol and her husband Linwood Austin of Yarmouth. Devoted and dedicated “Poppy” of Casey of Yarmouth and Monica and her fiancée Lauren of Philadelphia, PA. Being the “Favorite Uncle” to his numerous nieces and nephews was an honor he relished.
Dick was one of seven siblings and is survived by a brother, Robert Intravaia of Winchester, MA. He was predeceased by his siblings Salvatore Intravaia, Mary Carvelli, Rose Puma, Leonora Hayes and John Intravaia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 20 th at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yarmouth. A reception will follow at The Woodlands Club in Falmouth.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aids and staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House and at-home care from Hospice of Southern Maine for their compassion and support during his final weeks.
