Yarmouth, Maine- Richard Scott Perla, 54, of Yarmouth, ME, passed unexpectedly in his home on October 3rd, 2013. A wonderful father, stepfather, brother and friend, Rick will be missed by his loved ones, both two and four-legged. He’ll be best remembered by his devotion to his children Emily, Corey and Jamie, and to his “sons”, Henry and Jack, a bloodhound and plott hound, respectively.
He was born on April 19th, 1959 to Terise Capretta Perla in Cleveland, Ohio. Rick was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Charles F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst, OH, and later attended classes at Kent State University. Rick left his studies to begin an adventurous career as a commercial fisherman and fish broker. Further adventures ensued when he married Jean Bickford, and became a loving stepfather to her two young children, Corey and Jamie Tatarczuk. His training was soon put to use when his daughter, Emily, was born. The family event planner and vacation enthusiast, Rick took his family on many quests in search of knowledge and treasure, but mostly fun.
Passionate about science, particularly Biology, Rick completed his Bachelor’s of Science at the University of Southern Maine and pursued a career in the field of Biotechnology. When not working, Rick loved spending time with his dogs, his family and his friends. Whether giving a “lecture” on the implausibility of the latest science fiction film, throwing darts with his besties, or flipping burgers for the Yarmouth High School football boosters as the Friday Night Lights Grill Master, Rick was always quick with an infectious laugh, a warm embrace and, his signature dance, “The Skitty”. He will be eternally missed by all of those who were lucky enough to be his friend, because he was a friend of the truest kind. Rick will be very sadly missed by the Amorosos, Snyders, Landrys, Perriers, Waxmans, Pingitores, and many other Yarmouth families.
Rick is predeceased by his mother Terise Capretta Perla and his two loyal dogs, Jack and Henry Perla. Rick is survived by daughters Emily Perla, South Portland, ME; Corey Tatarczuk, Brooklyn, NY and Jamie Tatarczuk, Castlemaine, Australia; grandchildren Theo and Greta Watson-Bonnice, Castlemaine, Australia; brother Randy Perla, Westlake, OH; sisters Cindy Pilling, Healdsburg, CA; Michele Bartko, Akron, OH and Diane Vandiver, San Diego, CA; Uncle Mario Capretta Lyndhurst, OH; ex-wife Jean Perla, Scarborough, ME.
There are no visiting hours scheduled. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, Maine with Pastor Jon Twitchell officiating. On-line condolences can be given to the family at www.lindquistfuneralhome.com.
