Sophia Anne Solmos

She was born on December 31, 2001 in Indianapolis IN, and relocated with her family to Maine in December of 2006.

Sophia was an extremely thoughtful and compassionate person who combined an intensely creative nature with a delightfully endearing sense of humor.

Sophia loved spending time with her family and friends. She enthusiastically embraced all of the adventures Maine’s incredible natural environment offered. Sophia had an exceptionally close relationship with her younger brother, Roman. She was a wonderful big sister and most importantly, a friend; always at the ready and fully willing to give advice and support.

Sophia’s love for art began at an early age. She once wrote, “ I am an artist. I began formal painting instruction with a local artist, Alice Ingraham, at age ten. With Alice, I learned the conventional technical skills, but more importantly, I learned how to look at the world from an artist’s perspective and how to make art fun.” Her hard work and dedication to the craft led to her acceptance into the Strategic Design and Management program at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. Sophia’s essence will forever be preserved in the pieces of art she left behind.

Sophia graduated from Yarmouth High School with Honors in 2020. She was a dedicated member of the Cross Country Team and the Nordic Ski Team. From 2019-20 she proudly served as the Nordic Family Captain and received the Bob Morse Team Spirit Award. Other academic awards included the Maine College of Art Book Award and the Biology Future Scientist Award.

Sophia is survived by her mother and father, Joseph and Melanie Solmos, her brother, Roman Solmos, and a large extended family.

Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 3-6 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth
