Yarmouth – Wayne Kaye Nickerson, 64, of Yarmouth died unexpectedly on Friday March 8, 2013 as a result of a snowmobile accident. He was born in Portland on February 11, 1949, a son of Adeline (Norton) and Kaye Nickerson. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Yarmouth High School, Class of 1968. He was a member of the basketball team that won the state championship and played a solid game of baseball. Wayne was a self-employed painter for over 30 years doing some commercial work but mostly residential painting.
Despite their sorrow, Wayne’s family acknowledges that his death outdoors was fitting for a man who was a true outdoorsman. He loved the ocean, boating and camping on the islands of Casco Bay with his children. He enjoyed fishing, be it fresh, salt or ice. Throw in some hunting, four-wheeling and of course snowmobiling and life was lived outdoors year round. Time at camp in Rangeley was always special with many fond memories.
Wayne will be remembered as a man who was nurturing and protective of his family with a heart that was bigger than the man himself. Friendships made in childhood were made for life.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 21 years, Shirley Nickerson; his children: Brad, Rhonda, Dierdre, Chad, Heather and Derek; nine grandchildren; his mother Adeline Nickerson; his brother Tim Nickerson and his wife Kathy; as well as a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his father and his brother Stephen Nickerson.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday March 16 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Yarmouth, 346 Main Street, Yarmouth with Rev. Ric Ochsner officiating. A reception will follow at the AMVETS Hall, North Road, Yarmouth. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com to share condolences, memories and tributes with Wayne’s family.
