Cumberland – William “Bill" LeRoy Bickford, 78, passed away at his Cumberland, Maine residence on February 9, 2022 following a bacterial pneumonia infection. He was born February 11, 1943 in Bangor, the son of LeRoy “Roy” and Beulah (Mittenthal) Bickford.
A graduate of Bangor High School, he served in the Air National Guard until his medical discharge. He then worked in his brother Gary’s auto body shop for several years. He moved to Worcester, MA where he worked on integrated circuits for Sprague Electric. Here he met and married his wife of 51 years, Charlotte (Lilly). Upon moving back to Maine, he worked as an optical technician for various optical companies for 30+ years. His favorite pastime as “tinkering” at his workbench in the garage.
In addition to his parents Bill was predeceased by a sister Caroline, brothers Bernard “Sonny”, and Gary of Bangor, Edwin “Eddie” of NH. Along with his wife he is survived by two sister-in-laws: Susie of Corinth and Shirley of Carmel; niece Belinda and Rodney Hallet of Milford (their children and grandchildren)/ nephew Scott and wife Kim of Brunswick (son Nick); and niece Sharon of Milton, NH (son Ryan).
A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00am on March 26th at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 265 Middle Rd, Falmouth ME 04105.
