Antonio D. Carreira

Antonio D. Carreira, a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Monday June 2, 2014 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 73 years old. He was born on February 18, 1941 to Joaquim Duarte and Maria Da Rosa Carreira in Portugal where he was raised and educated. On September 6, 1969, he married Maria Dos Santos Marques in Portugal. They came to the United States in 1970 and settled in Yonkers. Mr. Carreira was a maintenance man for Liberty Lines in Yonkers for many years prior to his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Portuguese-American Community Center in Yonkers. Mr. Carreira is survived by his loving wife, Maria Carriera, two daughters, Jánet Carreira and Veronica Rutigliano and her husband Ralph and two grandchildren, Antonio and Olivia Rutigliano. He is also survived by a sister in Portugal. He was predeceased by one brother and two sisters. According to his family, “He was the type of person that was a friend to everyone”. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church, South Broadway, Yonkers on Thursday June 5th at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
