Br. Roger B. Deguire, OFM Cap.

Br. Roger was the son of Stanislaus J. and Alice B. Laplante Deguire was born on June 4, 1953, in Woonsocket, RI. He entered Postulancy at Mary Immaculate Friary, Garrison, NY on January 31, 1976, and later, Novitiate at St. Lawrence Friary, Milton, MA on August 31, 1976. Br. Roger pronounced his first vows on August 16, 1977.

Br. Roger continued his religious formation at St. Anthony Friary, Hudson, NH [1977-79]. He professed his perpetual vows on June 20, 1981, and resided at Mary Immaculate Friary, Garrison, NY, until 1984, when he served as the house tailor.

In 1984, Brother was transferred to St. John the Baptist Friary, New York City, where he earned his B.A. from Fordham University and ministered to AIDS patients at St. Clare Hospital, NYC.

For the next twenty-nine years, Br. Roger resided and ministered in Sacred Heart and St. Clare Friary, Yonkers, NY. In 1995, he served the Sacred Heart Community as fraternal vicar and Parochial Associate of Sacred Heart Parish until 2011.

Brother served as the Curator of the Capuchin Heritage Building [2002-2024], Provincial Archivist [2008-2024], and part-time Sacred Heart Parish staff until his death.

Br. Roger is survived by his brother Paul Deguire [wife-Denise], his sister Jeanne Deguire-Crepeau; his sister Lucille Deguire; his brother Richard Deguire [wife Linda]; his brother Roland Deguire [wife Paulette]; his sister Helene Beauregard; his nieces and nephews and many lasting friends and parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish.

The wake will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Whalen-Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10703 [914-965-5488]. The funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers. In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Province of St. Mary in Memory of Br. Roger Deguire in support of the continued good works of the Capuchin Franciscan friars.
