Della Mae Hills was born to Lucille Coaxum on February 4,1940 in Yonkers, NY. She attended Yonkers public Schools. She was a long-time member of the institutional A.M.E. Zion Church, Yonkers, NY where she faithfully served on many ministries until she was physically unable to do so. Some of those ministries included the usher board, pastor’s aide, leader of class leaders and deaconess. Church members will fondly remember her many meals, but most especially her sweet potato pies and potato salad. She loved children and helping others. She was affectionately known as a social worker, often found taking seniors to doctor appointments, running errands and grocery shopping.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Adrienne Hills of Bronxville, NY; two sisters, Mary Bracey of New Jersey and Geneva Williams of Huger, SC; two nieces, Debra Harris of Mount Vernon, NY and Dolores Fleming of Yonkers, NY and a nephew, Antonio Victor Coaxum (Hope) of Yonkers, NY, as well as a host of other family members including aunts, one uncle, cousins and cherished friends. She will be laid to rest at the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
