Frank was born in Yonkers, NY on May 15, 1920. He was the son of the late Cleto and Filamina D’Amato. Frank was the oldest of four siblings.
Upon returning from his service (US Army 5th Signal Platoon) in WWII, Frank married Jenny Comizio on January 5, 1946 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Yonkers, NY. At one time, Frank was employed at Phelps Dodge Anaconda Corp., the United States Post Office, and Yonkers School District.
Soon after their marriage and due to the early passing of Jenny’s parents, Frank was faced with the awesome task of helping to raise many of Jenny’s siblings. Rather than shy away from the situation, he and Jenny bought a home that would accommodate that mission. A short while later Frank and Jenny adopted a family of their own. Frank’s selflessness and dedication to family were paramount in his life. Frank’s community endeavors included being past commander of Yonkers City Post 1666 VFW, member of BPO Elks NY 707, as well as dedicated member of Sacred Heart Church Holy Name Society.
Frank’s family is forever grateful for the care and compassion he received from the staff at the New York State Veterans Home at Montrose, and in particular, the Catskills Unit. Frank was cared for with great dignity, respect, and love.
Frank is survived by his sons Frank Jr., and Joe (Eva), daughter Donna Gessman (Carl), grandsons Frank III and Spencer, great grandson Ryan Fukumoto (Miki), and great, great grandson Ray Fukumoto – as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews, and friends. Frank was predeceased by his wife Jenny, and by his sisters Josie Eggers, Angie Consilvio, and Nettie Rinaldi.
In celebration and memory of Frank, donations can be made to the New York State Veterans Home at Montrose, 2090 Albany Post Rd., Montrose, NY 10548.
