He was born on October 14, 1947, in Yonkers, NY, to Harold and Georgiana (Wilson) O’Mara. George graduated from Stepinac High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966, and served as a photo interpreter in DaNang, Vietnam, at the height of the war. He was honorably discharged in 1969 in the rank of Sergeant. He married Mary Duffy in June 1969, and they settled in Yonkers where they remained until his death in May 2025. George trained and then worked as an electrician in Local 3 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
George will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary, their sons: Robert M. (Leslie) and Thomas S., as well as by his precious granddaughter, Olivia. To Olivia, he was “Poppa.” To him, she was everything. George is also survived by his brother, Robert J. O’Mara (Martha), sister, Kathleen O’Mara, favorite cousin, Lorraine Reboli (Dennis), and many wonderful nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who added such joy to his life. He was so grateful for each and every one of them.
