Gerald P. Murphy

Gerald “Jerry” Murphy died on Thursday August 16, 2012 in Columbus, GA at age 69. Born on July 29, 1943 to Patrick and Rita (Powers) Murphy in Yonkers where he was raised and graduated from Sacred Heart H.S. Mr. Murphy went on to obtain a degree from Iona College in 1965 and then served in the U.S. Navy until 1967. He earned a Masters degree from Fordham University in 1973. Mr. Murphy worked in the Social Service field in Westchester County for over 12 years. He subsequently returned to the accounting profession and worked in the waste management industry until retirement in 2005. Mr. Murphy resided in Yonkers until 1974 and then moved to Tarrytown. Upon retirement Mr. Murphy moved to Columbus, GA. He was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Rita Murphy. He is survived by a brother, James Murphy of Yonkers and 2 sisters, Patricia Murphy of Seguin, TX and Maureen Murphy, OP of Blauvelt, NY. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday August 23, 2012 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be in Church of the Magdalene in Tarrytown on Friday August 24, 2012 at 11am. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
