She was born in Yonkers on April 24, 1927, the fifth of Charles and Edith (Allison) Winstanley's seven children, she grew up in the Nepperhan section of the city attending Commerce High School, graduating in 1945. She married former high school classmate Michael Phalen on November 6, 1948. They had 3 children. Gloria worked for Albert's hosiery in Getty Square for 35 years, then for Bloomingdale's in White Plains for 13 years. Michael worked for the Yonkers Fire Department for 41 years, retiring as Assistant Chief in 1991. Michael and Gloria spent their retirement years at their home in Dobbs Ferry until his death in 2009. Gloria continued to live in Dobbs Ferry until 2015 when she moved to The Landing, an assisted living facility in Poughkeepsie, NY. Gloria's daughter Cheryl Hansen passed away in 2018. She is survived by her son Rory Phalen & wife Margaret of Ridgewood, NJ, son-in-law Richard Hansen of Dobbs Ferry and son Kenneth Phalen & husband Steven Hecht of Jersey City, NJ, grandchildren Mindy Nunes & husband Michael, Heather Rodemeyer, Rory Phalen & wife Marjel and Gregory Phalen & wife Melissa, great-grandchildren Raechel Holland, Max Nunes and Kayleigh Nunes. She is also survived by a brother Leonard Winstanley & wife Marianne of Yonkers as well as many nieces and nephews. Gloria will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm. A Funeral Service will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30am, Rev. David Lothrop officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
