I did not learn of Joan's passing until yesterday and was shocked at the news.  Joanie and I have been friends since high school.  In the most recent years we would have lunch together at Maude's while laughing about the fun times over the years.  She was one of the kindest people I've ever known.  I miss her already.  My husband, Ernie, also cared a great deal for Joanie.  I hope he was there to welcome her when she arrived in heaven.

The something beautiful that remains for me are all the wonderful memories that we shared.  
Joan and I were cousins and shared many happy times together in Yonkers, Long Island, and Miami, FL.  Joan was a terrific friend and a beautiful person in so many ways.  I will miss her very much.

Andrea and I were very good friends with Joan during our school years and approximately 6 years thereafter.  We had children of similar ages when she lived on Arthur St.  We had many good times together while in High School when we were all dating. We grew apart  when we moved away from the area unfortunately. She was a fun and loving person and we send our heartfelt sympathies to the family.

Dear Alison, Billy, Pam and Jeri,  I am so, so sorry for your loss. Running into your Mom out here in Greenport could truly brighten my whole day. She always hugged me like I was still 12 and the warm feeling her smile brought lasted all day. She will truly be missed.  Thinking of you guys and sending you all my love.

Joan may you rest in peace you were a beautiful lady.  We had some great laughs at St John's Human Resources Dept together.  You were a great friend love you so much and a wonderful artist.

Joanie, Joanie, Joanie, what happened?  It is hard to believe a world without you in it!  It happened so quickly.  Every place I go I remember being there with you.  You were such a fine and giving person.  Not a mean bone in your body.  

No one knew history about the streets and hills of our City like you did, and all from the perspective of a youth growing up here. From the laborious trips your Dad made pulling a sled to Dellwood Milk after a snowstorm to make sure the customers of his little deli had milk; to the times when sleigh riding down Roberts Avenue was a possibility because there were a lot less cars back when. 

You also knew Untermyer Park before it got bad before it got good.  We were there last Christmas at the lighting of the Christmas tree with your daughter and Hannah.  You wanted to sit and take in the splendor of the Park in all its transformed glory with the lights and the music. Who thought you would be sick this year for the tree lighting? Yonkers has lost a great historian.  And I have lost a great friend.

You will be sorely missed.
