Jack was born in Yonkers on March 5, 1951 to John and Margaret (Trehey) Fennell. The family for many years owned and operated the former Fennell Funeral Home at 138 Ashburton Ave. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School and began working in the gas division at Con Ed soon afterward. When he left the utility in 1993, he was helping oversee the company’s gas operations in Westchester County.
In later years after moving to northeastern Pennsylvania, he worked as a manager for Continental Airlines at the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Airport and, in his last and most favored, career, as beverage manager at Mount Airy Casino in the Poconos.
Jack loved World War II history, cooking (his own as well as the chefs he followed on the Food Network), a sharp looking suit, and an ice cold Heineken.
On July 3, 1978, he married Elizabeth Kinsella, who passed away in 2008. His sister, Mary Ellen Scaplehorn, passed away in 2012. He is survived by three daughters, Tracy (Todd) Fennell-Kent of Jamesburg, NJ; Chris Ann (Beverly McCreary) Moore of Kailua, HI and Kathy (Daniel) Moore O’Connor of Brewster, NY; two sons, John V. Fennell of Boca Raton, Fla. and John F. (Maureen) Moore of Cornwall, NY; a brother, Daniel Fennell of Yonkers, four granddaughters, one grandson and a nephew.
Family and friends are making donations in Jack’s memory to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro or The Hospice Program of Princeton HomeCare.
There will be a memorial visitation at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thurs., September 3 from 2-6 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:30pm.
