John W Pike was born in Cardiff, Wales, on January 23, 1918 and was a beloved member of the Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Monastery for many years. He also belonged to The Monastery Players. His four children were raised and schooled at Sacred Heart Parish in Yonkers. John Pike was predeceased by his son John W. Pike and his granddaughter Erica Romero. He is survived by his three daughters, Claire Galimba, Margaret Pike and Ellen Pike, as well as seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. John served seven years in the British Royal Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Burma and India. He trained paratroopers and taught arm-to-arm combat. John sold British and Irish travel and worked for British and Irish Railways.
He retired to San Diego but would visit his old parish as well as a brother in Wales and a sister in Tasmania each year into his early 90s, where he transitioned into Independent Living at Atria Woodlands in Ardsley. His caretakers, Benjamin Ankameh, Sonia Dortch, and Martha Cofie took loving care of him in his last years. John was always kind and loving to the community he lived in, and Atria threw him a wonderful 100th Birthday Party, as did his family and friends. John loved to greet people with a poem. He sometimes made one up on the spot. John loved to write and to make people smile. A memorial mass will be held in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday October 13th at 10am. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
