Joseph J. Welsh

Joe was the son of John Welsh and Margaret Kopcho Welsh and a lifelong resident of Yonkers. Joe attended Gorton High School, and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He recently was so honored to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington. After discharge from the Army in 1953, Joe began his career as an installer for Western Electric where he worked for 37 years. During retirement he thoroughly enjoyed regularly attending retiree Pioneer luncheons, spending time ‘down the river’ crabbing and hanging out with the guys and viewing antique cars at Applebees. And oh, how he loved the NY Giants! Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years Margaret Kiernan Welsh, his daughters and their husbands, Janet and Tom Kenny and Barbara and Sid Blackwell, Grandchildren Meaghan, Conor (Catalina) and Brian Kenny and Sydney and Mary Blackwell and 1 great granddaughter, Madilyn Kenny. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hudson Valley Honor Flight (Honorflight.com) in memory of Joseph J. Welsh. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday 11:30am to 12:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Friday September 18th at 1pm. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
