Juliana (Julie) died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 7, 2021 – just 2 weeks shy of her 82nd birthday. To all who knew her - she was a loving wife, beautiful mother, amazing grandmother, and cherished friend.
Julie was a retired executive secretary - beginning her career first at General Foods in Tarrytown, then stopping work to be a full-time mom, and finally ending with the Yonkers Public Library. In her retirement she enjoyed puzzles, dollhouse crafting, gardening, chatting with friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
As the youngest child of John Gulla and Mary Dudich Gulla, Julie was born in 1939 in Brooklyn, NY and was a huge Brooklyn Dodgers fan. After graduating from Hastings High School, she attended Katharine Gibbs in NYC. At just 20 years old, she married the love of her life John Petricha in 1959, and together they made Yonkers their forever home. Julie was predeceased by her parents, brother John Gulla Jr., and adored husband of 57 years.
Though her passing is such an irreplaceable void to the Petricha family - as there was much she planned to accomplish in the coming years - her memory and legacy will be kept eternal by her two children Jacqueline Silipigni and John (wife Stacey) Petricha Jr., and four grandchildren - Carolyn, Robert, Luke and Marin who will forever miss their beloved “Grammy”. Julie’s greatest loves were her family; spending time with them on road trips, vacations, events; proudly sharing stories about her grandchildren; and her strong Carpatho-Rusyn Orthodox faith.
Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers on Wednesday, August 11, from 3-7pm, with a Funeral Service there at 6:15pm. A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, 485 North Broadway, Yonkers on Thursday, August 12, at 10am, followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings.
