Maria Costa

Maria Costa (nee Neves), a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Saturday July 18, 2015 at the Andrus Home in Hastings on Hudson. She was 94 years old. She was born on January 22, 1921 to John S. and Maria J.P. De Resende in Plymouth, Ma. She was raised and educated in Portugal. Maria was a dressmaker at the Woodhaven Dress Company in Yonkers for thirty years until her retirement in 1987. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Yonkers and was a volunteer at the church. She married her husband, Simeao Costa in Portugal. Mr. Costa died in 1986. Survivors include one daughter, Isabel Costa of New Windsor, N.Y. and three sons, Manuel Da Costa of Tennessee, Anthony Costa of Florida and Victor Costa of New Jersey. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa De Fatima Costa, a son, Jose Costa and a sister, Leonilda Rodrigues. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Wednesday July 22nd at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
