Mary Teague, originally hailing from the lush landscapes of Kerry, Ireland, and a longtime resident of Yonkers, New York, passed away peacefully at the age of 95. She leaves behind a legacy as rich and spirited as the songs she sang and the laughter she shared.
For 58 years, Mary was the beloved owner of The Tyrone House, her cherished pub in Yonkers, where she poured not only drinks but also boundless hospitality and affection. Her voice, as melodious as the Irish hills themselves, filled the air with traditional songs, weaving a tapestry of culture and camaraderie for all who entered.
With arms wide open, Mary welcomed patrons from every walk of life, treating each with the same genuine kindness and making them feel like family. Her pub wasn't just a place to drink a perfect pint; it was a sanctuary of friendship and acceptance, where strangers became friends and friends became lifelong companions.
Beyond her infectious spirit, Mary was renowned for her culinary talents, ensuring that no belly left The Tyrone House without being filled with the hearty flavors of Ireland. From steaming bowls of stew to freshly baked soda bread, every dish was crafted with love and served with a smile.
Mary's legacy extends far beyond the streets of Yonkers. She leaves behind a devoted family who adored her dearly. She is survived by her loving husband of many years, Jimmy Penney; her children Dennis, Maureen, and Brian; twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of her indomitable spirit and zest for life.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Bridget, and her siblings, Patrick, Bridie, and Joan. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Kevin, who passed away in 1970, and her eldest son Kevin, who passed away in 2007.
May the heavens resound with the melodies of Mary's songs, and may her legacy of love and laughter endure for eternity. Rest in peace, dear Mary, your spirit will live on in the cherished memories of all whose lives you touched.
