Mona G. Coogan

Mona G. Coogan, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, passed away on July 14, 2022. She was born March 12, 1925, to the late George and Julia Gomez, and was married for 41 years to Edward P. Coogan, also of Yonkers, who predeceased her on June 12, 1996.

After graduating from Gorton High School, Mrs. Coogan obtained B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics at New York University and worked as an Economist for MetLife, retiring as an Officer of the company in 1980. At that time, she was a member of the New York City Council of Economic Advisors. After earning a second M.A. in Health Advocacy at Sarah Lawrence College, Mrs. Coogan was employed for 13 years in the Social Club Program of the Mental Health Association of Westchester in White Plains. She volunteered for many years in MHA’s New York State certified Long-Term Care Ombudsman program, assigned to a number of nursing homes throughout the county, as well as at the New Rochelle Home for Adults.

Mona Coogan is survived by her brother George Gomez of Yonkers, and her nieces and nephews: Caryn Fiscella, Kevin Fiscella, Glenn Fiscella, Paul Fiscella, Lynne Fiscella, Frank Fiscella, George Fiscella, Edward Fiscella, Anthony Fiscella, Tristana Fiscella, and their families. In addition to her husband Edward, she was predeceased by her sister, Florence Fiscella and her brother-in-law, Ben Fiscella of Newport News, Virginia, and a nephew, Thomas Fiscella. Other survivors include her cousin James Gomez, of Yonkers and a niece, Mary Coogan Foley of Yonkers and County Clare, Ireland.

Born in St. Joseph’s parish, Mrs. Coogan was a parishioner of Christ the King Church for more than 60 years. Her funeral mass will be celebrated there at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022. Following cremation, internment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

A mass of christian burial for Mona will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Christ The King RC Church, 740 N Broadway, Yonkers, NY 10710.
