Noel James Chew, 84, of Yonkers, passed away on December 15, 2020.

Noel, fondly known as Jimmy/Jim, was born July 20, 1936 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

As a young child, he immigrated to the United Kingdom and as a young adult worked in the Royal Air Force as a mechanic. His professional life consisted of a plethora of service orientated employment where he shared his love of the Lord and displayed his steadfast work ethics.

Jim was devoted to his wife Amrita, married 38 years, to his children, and his loyal loving pet Chew-Chew Baba. Jim loved sports and was a keen cricketer in his youthful days. He was also an avid baseball and football fan; his passion for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants was evident to all who knew him well.

Jim fought many medical challenges within the last 10 years. Just as he dealt with all experiences in life, Jim managed his illnesses with strength and God’s grace. On his final day, Jim passed away at home with his beloved wife Amrita and his daughter Denise by his side.

His life and memories will be cherished by his wife Amrita Chew, daughters Denise Chew and Evelyn Chew-van Dongen, son-in-law Arjan van Dongen, by many beloved extended family members, friends, and his church family at Hudson View Baptist Church.

Jim’s loving presence, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.

Noel was my brother. He was predeceased by his brother Ruel in 1985, his sister Jacqueline in 1991 and his mother Evelyn Welsh in Queens, NY in October 2000. Noel was born in Jamaica. His father died while Noel was still young. Noel left Jamaica with aunt Rose who raised him. Noel emigrated to New York where I finally found him a few years ago. I was glad to finally meet him because he never returned to Jamaica after he left in the late 1950s. He never saw his mother again who thought Noel had died. She so loved him. My brother Ansel and I are his only siblings alive. I mourn his passing and express condolences to his wife and family. The truth will set you free!

I wanted to express my deepest sympathy to the family for their loss. May the memories of your dad provide type of comfort for you. He had a full life and was very proud of his children and family. The loss of a loved one reminds us how fleeting time is and to cherish each moments.

Dear Amrita,
Our Jimmy, Jimmy Chew has been finally laid to rest, eternally. We will miss his gentle smile and a loud laughter, his gentle words always mixed with humour and very comforting.
My memory takes me back to your first visit to India after your marriage in early nineties. He brought a portion of your Wedding cake, which you people had preserved to bring to your family in India. I can imagine the trouble he might have taken to go through the customs both in USA and India. But he succeeded. Then his stay with our family, not knowing the language, but got along with the older generation of grand parents and mother very well. They loved him and remembered him so fondly even when you people left. It will take a volume to write what his qualities were. I will cut it short by saying that he was a genuine, God loving human being, loved every one who came in his contact and every one loved him.
He will stay in our memories for ever.
We thank God that he shared some fond memories with us.

He cracked me up with his jokes. I will surely miss his sense of humor.
