Orain Anthony Calbert Ming was born on June 24th1968 to Delita R. Joshua and George Ming at Harlem Hospital. He would always tell the story that he was almost born in the middle of Church service, because his mom didn’t want to leave. But they told her “Delita you ain’t having that baby in this Church! Get on down to the hospital and bring him in right!” Mama Paralee Bailey was the first to hold him in the hospital and that always meant so much to him. As a teenager he attended Rice High School.
Orain was a die-hard New Yorker. He was raised in the tough streets of Harlem and was a tough, strong man; and yet a fiercely loyal friend. He always said that a real New Yorker supported both teams of each sport. He bled NYC for all its highs and lows. So when GOD charged him to serve for the souls of this city, he took it very seriously. Orain spent 95% of his life in The Church. From the tender age of 5, GOD told him he was called to preach. He loved The Church but he hated the call at first. He didn’t want to become a product of his examples. But GOD empowered him by showing the do’s and don’ts, as well as all he was meant to be in their relationship. Over the years GOD has poured into him through many amazing people. He truly felt blessed that he had a village to care for him and shape him as a child. Mama was at the forefront and Evangelist MacDougal, Reverend Carroll, Reverend Kilgore, his many Godmothers, Uncles and many others taught him well, disciplined him, corrected him, encouraged him and loved him so he knew he was never alone or without. After the different church services, Orain and his cousins would reenact the services, pretending to be the reverends and deacons. Orain could always function in every role of the church because he soaked it all up like a sponge. He valued every prayer, every hug, every example and every lesson that pointed him to Jesus.
Preaching the Gospel was his passion and he served The Lord with love and joy for almost 3 decades. He gave his life to The Lord in 1992. Through prison ministry, chaplaincy at hospitals, ministering to special needs adults and his service as the House Prophet and Pastor/Senior Pastor at several churches in NYS, Prophet Orain A. C. Ming impacted countless lives. He was a caring and transparent man who told countless stories of his youth in Harlem and his visits back home in St. Croix, and how much he loved his roots and the people within them. Most importantly, he would tell of all that God brought him through and out of. He could encourage anyone’s faith by just shooting straight with them about the circumstances, and about God’s Love for them. His goal was always to teach souls how to pursue a personal relationship with Jesus, with such fire that we couldn’t be stopped.
Orain was preceded in death by his beloved great grandmother Paralee “Mama” Bailey, his grandparents Arthur and Agnas, his mother Delita and several uncles.
