Roy Sokol

Roy E. Sokol of Yonkers died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at age 73. Born on March 20, 1943 to Edward and Helen (Kalinoska) Sokol in Yonkers where he was raised and educated and graduated from Yonkers High School. Mr. Sokol worked as a manager for Verizon Corp for over thirty four years; retiring in 1999. In 1965 he married Darleen Matias in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church, she survives. Roy was a volunteer for St. Cabrini Nursing Home for all activities with the residents. He enjoyed his golf with the Yonkers seniors at Dunwoodie and was an avid bowler and fisherman. He served his country with the Navy aboard the A.E. Monahoha. Mr. Sokol is survived by his wife Darlene and his four children; Roy (Elizabeth) Sokol, Darrell (Janell) Sokol, Robin (Carlos) Dosantos and Dawn Sokol. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and his brother Ray Sokol and his sisters Patty Sokol and Dorothy Macchio. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Military Honors will be conducted at the Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m.
