Sr. Thomas Marie Callahan (a/k/a Anna Veronica) was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1920. She entered the Sisters of Charity in 1940, professing vows in 1943. An educator, she served in elementary and high schools in Manhattan, Staten Island, the Bronx, Westchester, Ulster and Suffolk as both teacher and librarian from 1942-1991. In her retirement she lived at Mount Saint Vincent Convent before moving to the Convent of Mary the Queen in Yonkers, where she died on May 2, 2013. Survived by: Bob Callahan, James Callahan, Neil Callahan, Jack Callahan, nephews; Virginia O’Connor, Joan DiPaolo, Eileen Schaefer, Ann George and Catherine Mackey, nieces. Wake: Convent of Mary the Queen, 35 Vark St., Yonkers, N.Y. 10701. Sunday, May 5, 2013 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013, burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity of New York.
