

He was born in Kingston, PA, the son of Hermione and Stephen Levandoski. Growing up in Edwardsville, PA. Steve attended area schools and excelled in baseball, football, and other sports.
Steve enlisted in the US Army in January 1941. One day on leave, he accompanied a good friend to NY to visit his friend’s girlfriend and met Helen Sokol of Yonkers. They were engaged prior to his leaving for Europe. He proudly served under the Commands of Generals Patton & Simpson with the 628th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Germany, Holland, Belgium, England, and France and returned stateside after the end of the war. After marrying, they settled in Yonkers. Steve was employed by H. Weiss Restaurant Supply and joined the Yonkers Fire Department in 1952. During the years, Steve rose to the rank of Lieutenant and earned the respect and friendships of his brother fire fighters and officers. After 30 years of service, he retired from the YFD, but continued his friendships with many of his brother fire fighters.
Steve is survived by his sons – Michael (Marianne), Stephen, Jr. (partner Carol), Mark (Cathy), and Keith (Dawn),long time good friend Vicky Kurak, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grand-children, and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen, and dear sisters Mrs. Cecelia Gallagher and Mrs. Dorothy Yeager.
Steve was grateful for the gift of his faith, family, and friends; He was a gentle man and a gentleman. May our Lord reward him for a life well lived. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A visitation for Stephen will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Bartholomew's RC Church, 20 Roosevelt Street, Yonkers, NY 10701. An interment will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Mary's Cemetery, 114 Sprain Road, Yonkers, NY 10710.
