It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Tarize Ibrahim Hattar (Um Husam), who was called home to eternal rest surrounded by her family.
A pioneer in her Arab community, Tarize was born in Al Salt, Jordan, and moved to Yonkers, New York in 1972 with her late husband, Farah Shihadeh Hattar.
Tarize leaves behind a cherished legacy through her children: Husam, Lorene (wife of Hiran Hattar), and Sharene Hattar. She was a devoted grandmother to Nasri and Hanna Hattar and a loving sister to Hind Hattar. She was predeceased by her siblings Yousef Hattar, Fakhri Hattar, Hana Hattar, Saleem Hattar, Fadwa Hattar, and Yasmine Kawar. Her devotion to family was evident in every meal she prepared, every garden she nurtured, and every word of wisdom she shared.
Friends and family will always remember her famous ‘S’ cookies and the flourishing garden that reflected her warmth and generosity. A woman of profound faith, Tarize lived each day with selfless dedication, creating a home filled with love, hospitality, and comfort for all who entered.
As we say goodbye, we find solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the many lives she touched. Her recipes, gardens, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire future generations. She now rests peacefully, free from pain, restored to glory.Visiting hours will be held at Wallen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday From 4-8 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Good Shepherd Church, 103 South Broadway, Yonkers, NY on Monday February 24th at 10:30am. Final Resting and Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mary's Good Shepherd Church.
