

Wallace Lyall, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Thursday November 20, 2014 at the Andrus Home in Hastings on Hudson surrounded by his daughters. He was 98 years old. He was born on September 19, 1916 to James and Elizabeth Mann Lyall in Yonkers where he was raised and educated. Mr. Lyall was a food manager in the Finast Supermarket in Yonkers for many years until his retirement. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II. On May 2, 1942, he married his loving wife, Elizabeth Gleason in St. Denis Church in Yonkers. Mrs. Lyall died on March 28, 1993. “He was a kind and gentle man who was very much devoted to his family.” Mr. Lyall is survived by one son, Bruce (Rosa) Lyall of San Francisco and three daughters, Beth (Bart) Gallagher Flanagan of Yonkers, Janice (Warren) Freiman of Newington, CT and Lorna (Scott) Nelson of Trumbull, CT, one sister, Elizabeth Zuzzolo of New Jersey, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a special sister in law, Susan Gleason and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother James Lyall. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 4-7pm. A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday November 24th at 12noon. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
