

He is survived by his loving wife Susan, his 3 daughters Christina, Rebecca and Natalie and his mother, Virginia. Family was the most important thing in his life and consistently spoke of how proud he was of all of them. There wasn’t a day that went by where he didn’t talk about his wife and children.
Herbert Joni Tan was born on May 8, 1970 in Tarlac, Philippines. At the age of three, his parents brought him to America to give him a better life and he grew up in Monticello, NY. He attended New York University where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in 1992 and went on to graduate from Pace University with his Juris Doctor in 1995.
He moved out west to Orange County, California in 2018 with his family after falling in love with the beauty of the weather and the allure of the sunset. and where he allowed his biggest passion to flourish. Captain of several USTA teams under “Team Courage”, he loved encouraging new players to come out while also nurturing the competitive spirit of those who’ve always loved the game. Herb was an avid tennis player from a young age. He played Varsity Tennis at Monticello High School all 4 years, played club tennis at NYU and continued to promote all things tennis. He became dedicated to bringing people together and enjoying the love of the game. From playing recreationally at Olive Hills Park to competitive tennis in USTA tournaments all the way up to Nationals, Herb truly lived his best life
Herb was a man of many talents. Being a lawyer showcased his charisma, his big personality and his commitment to helping others. Always the first to check in on friends and take care of others, Herb never left people alone. In addition to tennis, Herb loved music, being active and watching all kinds of sports and entertainment. Herb also enjoyed traveling and specially visiting new places whether with his wife alone or together with his children. Herb lived his life to the fullest and there was not a single thing he took for granted. He loved taking trips with his wife and daughters whether that was locally to a restaurant or across the globe. His loving smile, warmth and presence will forever be missed.
Herb’s legacy will never be forgotten and we will miss him, remember him, cherish him and recognize he was truly unique. Herb was loved and respected by many.
Friends, family and more are invited to honor his life at Funeral services which will be held on Monday, October 31st beginning at 10am for the rosary reading, followed by the 10:30am mass at Saint Martin de Porres Church located at 19767 Yorba Linda Blvd in Yorba Linda, CA 92886. Immediately following will be the internment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery at 7845 Santiago Canyon Road Orange, CA 92869. A funeral luncheon will be held at 1:30pm at Teppanyaki Grill Supreme Buffet at 1630 W Katella Ave. Anaheim, CA 92802.
