Suzanne Horowitz saw the world through rose-colored glasses. It was that positive outlook that helped her navigate through the trials and tribulations she faced. After all, no one gets through life unscathed.
Sue’s life was a journey filled with much more joy than pain. Even in her later years and as many of her loved ones and closest friends had passed on, she embraced the memories and looked forward to the days ahead. She was a voracious reader, worked on crossword puzzles, had a regular mahjong game, watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on a daily basis, and enjoyed going out for meals.
One of her sons once said on a milestone birthday, “Mother, can you believe you’re turning 90?” She smiled and said, “How ‘bout that!”
Sue grew up in Chicago, met the man of her dreams on a family summer vacation in Wisconsin, and married Robert Horowitz in 1952. They lived in Columbus, Ohio, where Bob had a law practice, and they raised four boys together. The Horowitz house became an epicenter for the boys’ friends to gather and was a great place to hang out. The “Horowitz Zoo” was a never-ending source of entertainment.
Once the boys were older, Sue began a career as a travel agent. It was a natural transition for someone who had spent so much of her early years traveling. The job led to vacations throughout the world for Sue and Bob.
They spent the second half of their marriage in Arizona to be closer to their sons. Their union lasted 62 years until Bob died in 2014 at the age of 95.
Sue lived another decade, and while she certainly missed her husband, and the passing of her two oldest sons was a dagger to the heart, she pressed on and continued to enjoy life until her final days. She died peacefully in her sleep at 92 after a short illness.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband Bob Horowitz, and sons Jimmy and Tommy. She is survived by sons Gary and Danny, daughter-in-law Ricki Horowitz, grandson Joey Horowitz, and brother William Brandwein.
