

Barbara Jean Slaughter, 69, left her family and friends on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 following a short illness. She was born August 7, 1941 in Yuma.
Barbara attended Crane School, Fourth Avenue Junior High, and Yuma High School. Barbara worked for the Circulation Departments at The Prescott Courier and The Arizona Daily Sun. She retired in 1997 from the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff where she served as Circulation Customer Service Manager. Barbara returned to Yuma in 2005 upon her husband Ken's retirement from Shamrock Foods Company. She was an avid lover of reading and music. She also had an immense love for her family and friends and her greatest joy came from being able to spend time with them.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ken Slaughter; sons, Kenny (Shirl) of Surprise, AZ, Clay (Charlene) of Flagstaff, AZ; daughter, Debbie of Yuma; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Jeff (Clara) Edington of Yuma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Mable McPherson of Yuma; step-father, Mack McPherson of Yuma; father, William Edington of Yuma; grandparents, Pete and Willie Blasingame of Yuma and grandson, Andrew Martinez-Slaughter of Prescott, AZ.
Visitation will be held at Johnson's Mortuary, 1415 S. First Avenue, Yuma, Arizona 85364, on Friday, August 13, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will follow at Johnson's on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will follow the services.

Barbara Jean Slaughter, 69, of Yuma, died Aug. 10, 2010, in Yuma.
She was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Yuma, and was a customer service manager for the Arizona Daily Sun.
A viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Private cremation will follow services.
