Carrie Harvey was born Carolyn Rae Harbour on December 27, 1941 at The Stork’s Nest in Phoenix, Arizona. She met her husband, Patrick at a Young Republicans Meeting. After marrying, they made Yuma their home in 1971, becoming involved in the many facets of the community. She was very social.
When she was not working alongside her husband as his accountant during the tax season, she was a homemaker and more. She spent the afternoons with Cub Scout Pack 90 as one of the Den Mothers. She was involved in politics, though she preferred working behind the scenes. (She loved working the County Fair, registering people to vote all the while talking and making a new friend.) She, however, for a time was the County Chairperson for the Yuma County Republicans. She also loved her involvement with Governmental Affairs Forum, and Toastmasters. These were great social outlets she enjoyed.
Then there was the Yuma Women’s Rod and Reel Fishing Club. Mom was an avid fisher. She loved the water, she loved boating, and she especially loved fishing. Yet she hated fishing alone. If no one wanted to take her, she could count on one of her mentors and good friend from the club, Bea Strong.
She loved living in Yuma, being around people. She loved going out to lunch with her husband at the busiest time of day for Brownies. She loved going to El Charro on Friday nights. She loved Gene’s and various other establishments that are/were around Yuma.
She opened her backyard to the church youth group and spent time teaching her grandchildren to swim, while playing and splashing around with them. At Thanksgiving, she expected the dining table to be full with all her grandkids. Even the poolside and living room tables were full of family and friends enjoying the company. She really shined with a full house underfoot.
She passed away Wednesday evening, April 15, 2015. She is preceded in death by her mother, Eva June Cramer, her father, Marion Edward “Ray” Harbour, and step-mother Rose Margaret Harbour. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Patrick Harvey, daughter Michelle Harvey, sons Steven (Carol) and John “Jack” (Dawn) Harvey, sisters Peggy (Don) Murray and Patricia (Roger) Emeigh, and 19 grandchildren.
