

Donnie was born April 2, 1945 at Luke Air Force Base in Litchfield Park, AZ to Clarence and Shirley Johnson. He was raised on a dairy farm in Tolleson, AZ where he began to develop his strong work ethic assisting with equipment and the herd. He attended Tolleson High school where he met his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, and wife of 51 years, Kathy.
Donnie received a trade certificate as a machinist from Phoenix College. He then went to work for Gramor Machine Shop, where he later met highway patrolman Jerry Dodd, who turned him onto pursuing a career in the DPS. Donnie became a highway patrolman in 1972 and was stationed in Tacna, AZ until he was promoted to Sergeant. At that time he was stationed in Bolder City, AZ for a year before transferring back to Yuma ,AZ in 1986. After 33 years of service, he retired as Sergeant.
Donnie was a talented and caring man. He had hands that could build, hunt, comfort and love. He told stories that everyone was eager to listen and laugh to. His biggest passions in life were camping, hunting and fishing. He loved fishing in the streams with his grandchildren and sitting up high on mountains spotting up big game for family and friends. A compassionate man who never met a stranger and lent a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Clarence E. Johnson. He is survived by mother Shirley Johnson, sisters Arlene (Bud) Ruble, Lynette (Joedy) Pack. He also leaves behind his beloved wife Kathy, children Craig (Shanna) Johnson, Brian (Julie) Johnson, Kari (Clint) Pikula, grandchildren Tyler, Taicey, Austin, Blake, Payton, Paige and Paxton. His Legacy of a compassionate, caring and loving son, brother, husband, father and friend will live on through all who knew him.
