Edith Latitia Sweet

Edith Latitia Edwards, 106 years of age, died on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the La Mesa Rehabilitation Center in Yuma. She was born to George and Minerva Edwards, the fifth of eight siblings.

Edith moved with her family to a farm near Storm Lake Iowa, where she started school. Several years later she moved with her family to Trousdale, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. She married George Carl Sweet on August 14, 1924 in Rembrandt, Iowa and accompanied him in various school teaching jobs.

It was in Caledon, Iowa that she bore two sons, George Robert Sweet and Loren Dean Sweet. After living with the family in Chicago, Illinois and Vallejo, California, she and her husband, George moved to Yuma, Arizona where they lived in retirement. Her husband George passed away in 1995. Edith had lived in Yuma for 38 years when she died at the age of 106.

Edith is survived by her sons, George Robert (Betty Park) Sweet and Loren Dean (Joan Waal) Sweet five grandchildren, and 10great- grandchildren. A grandchild was due in April 2014.

Funeral service will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, Friday, October 11, 2013 at 10 am, followed by interment at Desert Lawn Memorial Park 1415 S. First Avenue, Yuma, Arizona. Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Mortuary.
