Butch was born in the old Yuma General Hospital on February 21, 1949. His parents, William Garland and Clara Lorene Cox, were stationed at the then named Yuma Test Station.
Growing up as an “Army Brat”, Butch quickly developed his kind, friendly personality. He was always willing to help others. He volunteered as soccer coach, Special Olympics coach and loaded cases of Girl Scout cookies and camping gear. Butch worked in the automobile industry for many years. He managed tire stores for Sears and Winston tire. His final working days were at Yuma Mesa Irrigation District as a ditch rider.
Butch’s greatest joy and life’s dedication was to his family. Married to his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth, they had two children, Joseph David and Jennifer Elizabeth (Cuming). This love continues with the birth of eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Butch supported each child in every way possible. He camped, fished, played basketball in the driveway. He watched countless hours of dance, gymnastics, BMX, soccer and wrestling. He touched their hearts and left a bit of himself with each child.
His battle with Parkinson’s and the dementia it caused became too much. He was tired and had to leave us.
A family memorial will be held at a later date.
