Gary Wayne Harrison Sr., 74, of Yuma, AZ, passed away at his home on February 18, 2025 with his family by his side after a long and brave battle with illness. Gary was born on December 19, 1950, to Charles and Ada Harrison (née Rather) in Burbank, CA.
After Gary graduated from Kofa High School he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Calhoun and his son Gary, Jr. was born in 1969. He went on to work for G&S Produce in Somerton and as an electrician for Klein’s Electric and Hansberger Refrigeration. In 1979, his daughter Carie was born. Gary then began working at Yuma Regional Medical Center, starting a nearly 36 year long year career in maintenance. During his career at YRMC, he spent 4 years attending night school at Arizona Western College and obtained a degree in air conditioning. This was an accomplishment he was very proud of. He retired from YRMC in 2015, after which he continued to live a good life, enjoying his golden years. Although Gary and Barbara parted ways, Gary was a loving and loyal father to his children.
In his spare time, Gary enjoyed completing DIY projects, gardening, working in his garage fixing trucks and rebuilding engines, riding his Harley Davidson, playing his guitar and piano, and taking his boat out to the lake. Gary spent many years volunteering for Alcoholics Anonymous in Yuma. He loved discussing politics, specifically Donald Trump.
Gary was predeceased by his father and mother, Charles and Ada Harrison and his sister Charlee Morgan. He is survived by his children, Gary Jr. [Christy] and Carie Bryant [Andruw]; grandchildren, Rindy Madison [Cody] Ryan Harrison, Alijah Bryant, Monroe Bryant; great grandchildren, Wayne, Hannah & Avery Madison; sisters, Frances Wegman and Rosie Hornberger; many nieces and nephews; and his ex-wife, Barbara Legan.
We find comfort in knowing that Gary's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love and loyalty he shared with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the memories we will cherish forever.
Graveside services will be held in Yuma, AZ at Johnson Mortuary and Desert Lawn Memorial Park on March 22nd, 2025 at 11:00am. A celebration of life will follow at New Mountain Church 3939 S Ave 3E Suite 130 at 1:00 pm
