

Joaquin Olivares Mann, 67, of Yuma, Arizona, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 18, 1958, in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, Joaquin lived a life marked by resilience, love, and a devotion to his family and community.
Joaquin enlisted in the Mexican Armed Forces during his youth, an experience that instilled in him a strong sense of duty and camaraderie. However, it was the family he built with his wife, Sonia Olivares, that became his life's greatest achievement. Their marriage of 49 years bore testament to a rare and exceptional partnership. Together, they nurtured a family full of love and laughter, graced by the birth of three children: Osvaldo Olivares, Karminia Olivares and Jackeline Melendrez, nine grandchildren Ramon Melendrez, Sebastian Melendrez, Carlos Melendrez, Osvaldo Olivares, Arlene Olivares, Damian Olivares, Aaliyah Olivares, Brandon Olivares, Brayden Olivares, and seven great-grandchildren Kaleia Melendrez, Rocky Melendrez, Aurora Melendrez, Orion Melendrez, Aiden Montaño, Zabdiel Melendrez and Kaleb Melendrez.
Joaquin was well-known for his charismatic personality and infectious smile. These traits endeared him to many, drawing people to his warm and welcoming presence. Despite enduring numerous health challenges, Joaquin's spirit never faltered. His steadfast determination and positive outlook remained unshaken, a testament to his unwavering character.
Gardening was one of Joaquin's cherished hobbies, where he often found peace and joy in nurturing his plants. His garden was a sanctuary of tranquility that reflected his nurturing spirit and love for nature's beauty. Joaquin also had a passion for music, which filled his home with melodies, further enriching the vibrant life he shared with his family. In addition to these pursuits, Joaquin had a keen interest in technology, constantly engaging with the latest developments and innovations.
Beyond his personal interests, Joaquin was an active participant in his church community in Yuma. He volunteered wholeheartedly, whenever his health permitted, contributing to initiatives that supported the congregation and extended a helping hand to those in need.
As we gather to honor and remember Joaquin, we are reminded of his enduring faith, as aptly captured in Romans 14:8: "If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord." Joaquin's life will be celebrated with a series of commemorative services in Yuma, Arizona. A viewing is planned for May 20, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Funeraria del Angel Kammann, located at 795 West 28th Street, Yuma, AZ 85364, with a rosary to be held from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The celebration of Joaquin's life will continue with a mass on May 21, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1815 S 8th Ave, Yuma, AZ 85364. A committal service will follow at noon, at the Yuma Pioneer Cemetery, located at 1415 S 1st Ave, Yuma, AZ 85364, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
