Johnathon Grant Weathersby was born February 6, 2001 in Yuma, Arizona to Robert and Jennifer Weathersby. Johnny, as he was nicknamed, was the life of the party since as long as anyone can remember. His energy, fierce spirit yet kind soul created a "perfect storm" for everything he did. He loved animals and in turn loved being a part of the Hi-Award 4-H program. Johnny proudly raised pigs and looked forward to the Yuma County Fair each year. But as kind as his spirit was, his energy and athletic ability were fierce. He played every sport he could with his biggest passion being football. Johnny was an avid Denver Broncos fan. Not many people can say they gave John Elway coaching advice, but our Johnny did exactly that. As an assistant coach to the Gila Ridge Hawks Varsity football team, one may think a 14 year-old boy would be intimidated, but not Johnny. His confidence was far beyond his years. Johnny's love for his parents and his entire family was evident in everything he did. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting the Picacho desert in his "decked out" truck with his dad. They shared a love for motorcycles, a love for riding but most importantly a love for each other. Although our Johnny's life was far too short, his always committed spirt, his "point on" style, and his genuine love for us are gifts we wouldn't trade for the world. Most know, Johnny was diagnosed with cancer in May of 2014. Since that date, Johnny's fighting spirit has moved mountains. He has brought an entire community together, he has been responsible for miraculous outcomes and has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
Johnny is preceded in death by his grandfathers, John Weathersby, Joseph Herbert and Uncle Kenny Weathersby and is survived by his parents, Robert and Jennifer Weathersby, his sisters, Kristen Holmes (Travis) and Rachel Sandoval (Angelo McIver), his nephew, Sammy McIver, his grandmothers, Linda Herbert and Glenda Weathersby, his aunts and uncles, Shana Quintero (Tim), Tammie Navy (Dan), Brandon Treat (Veronica), Lacy Treat (Brenton), Ashley Treat, Aaron Sparlin (Shelby), and his loving cousins; Charlie, Amanda, Taryn, Cristan, Gia, Bailey, Amanda, Gracie, Tyler, Kale, Jake, Ryan and Kinley and his precious pup, LuLu.
