Marie was born on December 12, 1928, in Globe, Arizona, to Eva K. Kentera and Kris L. Kentera, immigrants from Montenegro. She attended Globe High School and continued her education at Arizona State College (now ASU), where she earned her masters in education. During her college years, she was also a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and remained active in the local Yuma chapter.
After graduating college in 1950, Marie moved to Yuma where she began her teaching career at Yuma High School in the Business Department teaching typing & shorthand, helping students gain the essential skills needed to succeed at the time. After her marriage to Robert E. Gleason, Marie took a break from her career to raise her kids then returned to teaching at Kofa High School. Marie taught well into her 70s and after retirement from Kofa, she was a substitute teacher well into her 80s. Marie was a gifted teacher who was passionate about her students and their education. She was also a beloved mentor who was dedicated to helping her students achieve their goals.
Marie touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and her absence will be felt deeply. We ask that you remember the joy, laughter, and the kindness she shared so freely, and hold her memory close to your heart.
Marie K. Gleason was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Gleason, and her son, C. Craig Gleason. She is survived by her two brothers, Larry Kentera of Phoenix and Milo Kentera of San Jose; her children, Evanna L. Gleason (Michael Hellberg) of Baton Rouge, Michelle M.
