Mary Josephine Ott, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 6, 2023, at Yuma Regional Medical Center. She was born March 3, 1947, in Winnebago, Minnesota. Mary was a homemaker, a bookkeeper for the family farm, and a retired nurse. She was a volunteer 4-H rabbit leader for many years and superintendent of the small animal barn. She gave many years to the youth of Yuma County as a Yuma County Fair auction clerk, sitting there for hours on end, never taking a break. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her beautiful yard. Her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren and seeing her great grandchildren born. Mary's dedication to her grandchildren was astounding! She hosted "Camp Grandma" for many years in the summer and never missed a game, recital, competition, or livestock show.
Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Ott, her sons Lee (Candace) Ott of Yuma, AZ, Larry (Gina) Ott of Yuma, AZ, and Lyle Ott of Yuma, AZ. Brothers, David (Pammela) Poels of Gig Harbor, WA, Richard (Veronica) Poels of San Carlos, Mexico, Johns A. (Brenda) Poels of Tucson, AZ; Sisters, Mary's twin Margaret (Gary) Wapler of Yuma, AZ, and Patricia Zullo (the late Gary) of Wittman, AZ; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 17 nieces and nephews and was a bonus grandma to many.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents John L. Poels and Irene E. Poels, brother John Martin Poels and sister Kathaleen Poels.
