Richard "Dick" passed Thursday, November 17, 2011. He was the oldest one of three boys born in Pontiac, Michigan to two schoolteachers on February 14th, 1941.
His mom and the three boys had asthma so they all moved to a dry warm city (Yuma) in 1948, a seven day trip in a car with three boys. As a school teacher his dad had summers off, so they all went back to the green cool of Michigan every summer in a car.
Dick was always into anything electrical; building crystal radios, wiring electric trains, radio transmitters etc.
He got his first job in radio in Yuma at KYUM. He also worked at KVOY and had the radio show called Platter Party (top 40) at night that all the High school kids listened to. He worked at KBLU radio and then KBLU radio/TV.
Dick went to a Catholic school in Michigan and then Crane School and Yuma Union High School. He always ran lights and sound systems for all the plays and shows. He also did all the speaking at all the events (Great MC). Even in grade school, he had a great voice.
Visitation will be held at Johnson Mortuary Chapel from 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m. today and a memorial service will follow from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
