On Thursday, March 12, 2015, Virginia "Cuata" Doten Perez was called to heaven to reunite with her parents and family members. She was born in Yuma May 21, 1920 to the pioneer family of Carlos and Dolores Olea Doten. She attended Second Avenue Elementary School and Fourth Avenue Grammar School. At age 19, she went to work for Dr. Tonglin as a Dental Assistant. At age 21, she went to work for Dr. Robert E. Rider as a Certified Nurse; she worked for him until he retired 26 years later. During her employment patients came in to ask to be treated by Cuata. Afterwards, she was employed by Dr. Jean Stanley. She lived a full active life and enjoyed dancing the jitterbug and the boogie-woogie.
Cuata is survived by two daughters, Dolores Doten Lechuga (Joseph) and Irene Doten Perez; grandchildren, Joseph J. Lechuga (Clare), Virginia Martinez (David), Renee Guerrero (John), and Christopher Hughes; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Epifanio Perez.
Viewing will be held Monday, March 16, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, 1415 S. First Avenue, Yuma.
