Roger Peter Bailey, 82, faithful and devoted Husband, loving Father, proud Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and trusted Friend went home to be with his LORD and Savior on May 6, 2020. He and his identical twin, Richard, were born in Unionville Center, Ohio on September 12, 1937. He grew up on the family farm with his seven siblings and developed a strong work ethic which prepared him to excel throughout life.
After graduating from The Ohio State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Economics, he joined the United States Army where he went through flight training school to become a Piasecki CH21-C Shawnee Chinook helicopter pilot. As a Second Lieutenant, he served his country valiantly in the Vietnam War where he was exposed to Agent Orange chemical poisoning leading to health issues for over 50 years. While in the Army, he developed countless aircraft skills which he used during his 23-year career at Bell Helicopter as a Project Engineer overseeing numerous military and commercial projects.
Preceded in death by his parents, Don and Erna Bailey and sister Kathy Kise. Survived by the love of his life, Dianne Scott Bailey whom he married November 13, 1961 in Dallas, Texas, and their three children: son Scott Bailey (Pam) of Denton, Texas; son Mark Bailey (Tammy) of New Braunfels, Texas; daughter Kristy Bailey of Sterling, Virginia; grandchildren Kirsten Evans (Randal) of Durham, NC, Kelsi, Kolton (Audrey), and Kara of New Braunfels, Texas; his sisters Carolyn Hines and Shirley Freeby, his brothers Richard, Don, Rollin, and Tim Bailey as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a host of friends. We all celebrate his life and the fact that he is now free of pain and walking in Glory with Jesus.
A memorial service is scheduled for December 1, 2020 at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas and burial with honors at 1:15 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a Go Fund Me page to help Dianne pay for the extensive medical expenses incurred over the years.
