Bennette A. Shultz of Franklin, MA (formerly of Stoughton, Randolph, Watertown and Brookline) passed away on February 13, 2021 at the age of 84. Beloved sister of Newton District Court Magistrate Henry H. Shultz of Needham, cherished aunt and surrogate mother to the late Nancy B. Shultz and Carol E. Martín (José Fernández Martín) of Franklin, MA and her great niece and nephew, Twins, Mariana and Michael. She was the treasured daughter of the late Attorney Morris Shultz and Mary “Mamie” (Manevitch) Shultz.
Bennette, also known to her family as “Auntie B”, achieved tremendous academic success. She graduated at the top of her class in 1954 from Brookline High School and was awarded an academic scholarship to Radcliffe (Harvard) where she majored in the Classics. After Radcliffe (Harvard), she excelled again and won another academic scholarship to attend Yale University. In honor of her education, she took great pride in never missing a Harvard Commencement.
In addition to her own academic success, education of others was profoundly important to Auntie B. Her teaching career started in Rochester, NY and took her to London, England, then Milton High school where she taught for over twenty-five years. She ended her teaching career at Boston Latin and Boston Latin Academy. She was fluent in Latin, French and Spanish and loved that her niece, Carol married a Spaniard and became a Spanish teacher. She made many lifelong friends throughout her life especially through her teaching. She even kept in touch with her students from her early years of teaching. Auntie B loved art, which led into one of her favorite pastimes, collecting art and attending art shows and auctions. For the summer time, she enjoyed time at the family’s cottage in Manomet Bluffs, MA.
She was a treasured aunt, daughter, sister, teacher and friend. She will be missed but never forgotten. Auntie B always helped loved ones and friends who were ill or needed a hand. You could call on her day or night and she would always be there. Special thanks to the medical staff at Milford Hospital for their utmost kindness during these difficult days.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Graveside Service will be held at Montefiore Cemetery in Woburn, MA. Preparations made by Stanetsky Memorial Chapel of Brookline, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bennette’s memory may be made to, The Marina Ganetsky Fund: https://gofund.me/6b113d45
