Born in Catawba County on April 23, 1936, she was the daughter of Clyde and Bessie Duke. She worked at Hecht Schwalbe for 47 years and was a former member of the Channel 22 CB Club.
Betty was a member of Murrayville Baptist Church in Murrayville, Ga.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Yates, Sr., her son, Jerry Allen Christy, three brothers, Clyde Duke Jr. Lewis Duke and Clayton Duke, and also one sister, Atha (Doll), Rumple.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, David Lee Yates, Jr. and wife Sonya, both of Statesville, her daughter, Sue Christy Daniel who resides in Dahlonega, Ga. where Mrs. Yates has resided for the past two and one half years until her passing. Also surviving are grandchildren, Daniel Sipes Jr., Kimberly Sipes Dinsmore, Shawn-Tel Yates, Betty Yates Trull, great-grandchildren, Sky Gilreath, Triston Gilreath, Brendon Trull, Kyle Marlow, Kayla Marshburn, Justin Allie, Madison Wilson, and Destiny Sipes. Along with 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Yates will lie in state at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 12:00 PM - 4:30 PM and Friday, February 19, 2021 from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM. A family service will be held in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with burial at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Yates Pastor, T. John Dell will be officiating.
