Deborah “Debbie” September Kalinka, 71, of Little Rock passed away peacefully Sunday, April 25, 2021. She is survived by her husband, James “JQ” Armstrong; 4 children, Wendy Danner (Donnie), Matt Danner (Gretchen), Blythe Kweekul (Daniel), and Kathryn “Kitty” Causey (Michael); sister Tina Bricker (Steve) and brother Guy Kalinka. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.
Debbie was born on September 7, 1949 in Kansas City, MO to Randall and Grace “Kitty” Kalinka. She graduated from nursing school and eventually landed in Little Rock, AR. Her career as a nurse spanned many different specialties, including neonatal intensive care and working for a renowned neurologist.
Debbie was best known to her family as “mom” and “grandma”. She was a firecracker who loved Broadway musicals, science fiction novels, Andrea Bocelli and rescuing any stray animal within a 50 mile radius of her home. Her grandchildren always looked forward to their movie dates with her (which she always slept
through), and digging through her pockets for Skittles.
The family would like to say Thank You to Arkansas Hospice and UAMS E4ICU for their amazing care and compassion. We would like to give special recognition to Imane Amrani, Felicia Loya, Angie and Angela Trammell for their tireless support, generosity and love.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her granddaughter’s animal shelter at olddrumanimalshelter.org.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 9, 2021 at Pinecrest Funeral home, beginning at 10 a.m.
