Lydia Louise Tomanio, 89, of Danbury, wife of Carl J. Tomanio, died peacefully in her home, on Saturday, May 8th. Louise (as she preferred to be known) was born in Bowling Green, Missouri in 1931, daughter of the late Otto and Elizabeth Moran. Louise moved from Missouri to Danbury as a young adult where she met the love of her life and future husband Carl.
Louise was a devoted wife and mother, an amazing cook and baker (her cheesecake was a must-have at family gatherings), an enthusiastic gardener, and a talented multi-sport athlete (tennis, golf, and bowling). Before having children, she worked in several local factories (Eagle Pencil, Branson Sonic Power). In her retirement years, she volunteered at the Danbury Senior Center, where she also participated in the chorus, the garden club, and her late-in-life sporting love, Nintendo Wii bowling.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Susan Tomanio and her partner Bruce Cullen, her son John Tomanio and his wife Beth Dufford; her sisters Jean Griffith of Quincy, Illinois and Mae Scanlon of Cold Spring, Kentucky, and her brother Donnie Moran of Vandalia, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many friends at the Danbury Senior Center.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, visitation will be private.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service to take place at 11:30am on Friday May 14th at Saint Peter Cemetery, Section 17, Danbury.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Louise may be made to the Danbury Senior Center, 10 Elmwood Place, Danbury, CT 06810.
