Popeye was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and brother-in-law.
Popeye retired from ETS Lindgren-Acoustic Systems after 40 years. At a young age, he learned to work hard and take on whatever job was available. He worked making soundproof rooms. His boss asked where he got his degree because Popeye did not need the blue print to finish the job. Popeye had a special set of skills.
He liked watching football and boxing and listening to music. He also loved to BBQ.
He is survived by the love of his life, Argelia Mata of 49 years, his children, Johnny Reyes, Richard Reyes (Gina), Geneva Escobedo (Robert), Nancy Carlin (Tom), Michael Reyes, Crystol Saenz, Jonathan Delgadillo (Alicia) and Cierra Reyes; his sisters, Simona Gutierrez, Sophia Ortiz, Amanda Trujillo, Timotia Rangel and Angie DeLeon. Seventeen grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren numerous other family members also survive him.
His parents, Amado and Christina Mata, and his two brothers, Robert Mata (JoJo) and Eluterio Mata (Terry), preceded him in death.
The family expresses appreciation to the members of Encompass Health Care Hospice, specifically Glenda Fuentes, Grace Lopez and Maggie Seabaugh.
