She was born on February 5, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to the late Glenn and Arnolda Seekings. She was a devoted wife to her husband Pearson LeRoy Wood for 56 years, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Elaine and Pearson met while they were both working at the AC Spark Plug division of General Motors Corporation. After their marriage in 1956, she became a homemaker and mother. The family moved several times during Pearson’s career with IBM before finally settling in North Carolina.
Elaine took up painting while she and Pearson were living in Nice, France on a 2-year assignment with IBM, which turned into a life-long passion. Upon their return to Cary, NC, she took classes, taught classes, and exhibited her artwork in shows and exhibitions across the triangle including many years at Cary Lazy Daze and Spring Daze.
Elaine was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Cary Fine Arts League and Resurrection Lutheran Church, where she developed many lasting friendships. All who knew her will remember her laughter, smiling face and joyful spirit.
Elaine is survived by her daughters Diane Post (Barry), and Susan Scofield, both of Cary, NC; her grandchildren Trevor Post, Jennifer Post Costin (John William), Adam Scofield, Rachel Post and Matthew Scofield; her great grandchildren, Tucker, Austin, Eli and Wesley. She is preceded in death by her husband Pearson Wood, brother Delbert Seekings and son-in-law Fred Scofield.
A Memorial Celebration of Life in Christ for Elaine, followed by a Rite of Committal in the church Columbarium, will take place at Resurrection Lutheran Church (100 W Lochmere Drive, Cary, NC) on Saturday, September 25, at 1:30 pm. A time of visitation, starting at 1:00 pm will precede the Memorial Service and offer an opportunity to greet the family. Due to Covid-19, please wear a mask and observe social distancing, as required by current church safety protocol.
